Summer Reading 2026

A graphic promoting "Plant the Seed to Read," for Summer Reading 2026 at the Genoa Public Library.

Ready to PLANT THE SEED TO READ for summer reading 2026? We believe that reading is an essential skill that should be enjoyed throughout the year, and summer is a great time to grow and expand your knowledge. Our program is free and does not require a library card to participate.

Our summer reading program aims to encourage a love for reading and help readers of all ages maintain or improve their reading skills. By reading regularly, you'll not only keep your minds sharp, but also have fun exploring new stories and characters.

To participate in the summer reading program, simply read every day and mark the date on your log book. Once you have read for 30 days, bring your log book into the library and turn it in for a prize. How much you read or for how long is up to the program participant and/or their library grown-up. We encourage program participants to select books (or audiobooks!) that interest them as reading should be enjoyable and enriching whether those are titles you already have at home or check out from the library. Our staff are happy to help you find books that match your interests if you would like suggestions, but reading library books is not required to participate in summer reading.

Summer reading runs from June 1 through July 30, 2026. All log books will need to be turned in by Tuesday, August 4, 2026 to be included in prize drawings. Raffle prize winners will be drawn on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 and notified via phone by library staff.

In addition to the reading portion of our program, there are lots of fun and exciting programs to participate in over the summer! From basket weaving to a magic show,  flower arranging to learning about worms - there are many options to choose from. Be sure to check out our calendar of events and register for the programs that indicate registration is required by calling the library at (815) 784-2627. Only by registering can you be guaranteed a spot in the program or class.

The entire staff at Genoa Public Library are excited to see you this summer! If you have questions about the program, please reach out to Pattie at (815) 784-2627 or pklassen@genoalibrary.org.
