Club 55

Since 1956, Family Service Agency has been providing counseling and other essential services to DeKalb County.   They are among the oldest private, nonprofit organizations in the area, and their programs have grown and adapted to changing community needs over the past half-century.

Family Service Agency serves as an "umbrella agency" of five distinct community programs:  Youth Mentoring, Children’s Advocacy Center, Center for Counseling, Community Action Program, and Senior Services.   They organize the efforts of many local agencies to provide the best care possible to our community.

For over 50 years, Senior Services, part of the Family Service Agency, has helped community seniors maintain physical, emotional, and social wellness, thus promoting senior independence.  This is achieved through a comprehensive program which combines therapeutic recreation, socialization, physical and mental stimulation, and health education to reinforce dignity and self-worth via Club 55.

Senior Services' four Club 55 locations offer various activities, including:

  • Fitness programs
  • Card games
  • Craft activities
  • Wii Bowling tournaments
  • Legacy writing
  • Line dancing
  • Woodcarving
  • Field trips to local parks, shopping centers, casinos, and more

The Genoa branch of Club 55 that meets in the Genoa Public Library Event Room at 232 W Main St is currently closed due to COVID.  Reopening plans will be shared as soon as the information is available.

All of Senior Services' programs are offered at little-to-no charge, thanks in part to the generous support of community agencies, and proceeds from The Country Store
